Carl Sandburg College women’s cross country freshman Nancy Jebet (Eldoret, Kenya/Tulwo) set the Chargers’ 5-kilometer record and won the women’s race at the Sauk Valley Invite on Saturday.

Jebet, who has not been beaten by a community college runner this season, crossed the line in 18:57, shattering the previous record of 19:14 set by Haley Bolliger at the 2013 NJCAA championship. Jebet earlier this season broke the Sandburg 6K record with a time of 23:17.3 at the Augustana Brissman-Lundeen Invite.

Sophomore Anastasia Beetler (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) finished third for the Chargers in a personal-best time of 20:01 as Sandburg finished third out of five teams.

In the 8K men’s race, freshman Freeman Shoemaker (Oquawka, Ill./West Central) led the Chargers with a PR of 28:29, good for eighth place. Dixon Kiptoo (Eldoret, Kenya/Kipsangui) followed in ninth with a time of 28:50. Sandburg placed third out of four teams.

Sandburg will race in the Region IV championships at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 on the campus of College of Lake County.
